 Chairperson President Paul Kagame is now chairing the opening ceremony of the 10th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union.

Some 27 heads of state are in Kigali where African leaders will formally launch the African Continental Free Trade Area Treaty (AfCFTA ) on Wednesday.

African leaders are set to adopt an agreement to create the largest trade area since the World Trade Organisation. The AfCFTA will create a unified market of 1.2 billion and gross domestic product of over 2.5 trillion dollars.

AfCFTA is an expression of the unity of Africa 55 countries to move the continent forward by creating an area for tariff-free trade across the continent.

The three Instruments to be signed are:

  • The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area
  • The Protocol relating to free movement of persons
  • The Kigali Declaration for the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area
