Air Malta and Turkish Airlines are holding talks on closer collaboration, including the code-sharing of more services.

Talks were held over the past days as Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi and airline chairman Charles Mangion accompanied President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on a visit to Turkey.

The Tourism Ministry said both sides discussed the possibility of new code-share agreements for destinations in the Asian region including China, Japan and Australia.

They also discussed collaboration on new destinations, via joint-venture flights to North African and Sub-Saharan destinations. Destinations being explored in this regard include Cairo.

The airlines already code-share flights to Istanbul.
