Armed Forces anniversary celebrated in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, ANGOLA, October 11 - The Defence Chancellery of the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia, the Permanent Representation to the African Union and CEA, commemorated the 26th anniversary of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA). ,

 

Angop learnt Wednesday that this was during a socialisation meeting attended by the Defence Attaché from SADC countries accredited to Addis Ababa.

 

According to a note from the Press Office of the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia, the ceremony which took place last Monday gathered, among others,  Defence Attaches from Brazil and Equatorial Guinea.

 

Angola's Defence Attaché, Col. Carlos dos Santos, highlighted the creation of the Angolan Armed Forces, which brought together former warring parties.

 

Carlos dos Santos also stressed the path that led to final peace in 2002.

 

He said that the country has today a single, regular and non-partisan Army, ready and committed to defence of the country from external aggressions.

 

The Army is also prepared to participate in peacekeeping operations, under the African peace and security architecture, he said.

 

 

Attended also the activity Embassy diplomats and Angolan official of the African Capacity for Immediate Reaction to Crisis (ACIRC), attached to the African Union.

 

FAA were founded on October 9, 1991, meant to  create and consolidate the single national Army, under the Bicesse Accords, Portugal, signed by the Angolan government and representatives of the former Unita guerrilla group.
