Luanda hosts ECCAS Summit on August 14

Luanda, ANGOLA, August 10 - Heads of State from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) will meet on 14 August in Luanda, Angola, to assess the political situation in the African countries of the central region, in the light of recent developments. ,

 

The information was released Friday in Luanda by the Angolan Foreign minister, Manuel Augusto, during a press conference meant to take stock of the diplomatic activities carried out by the President of Republic, João Lourenço.

 

On the Summit, he said, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, invited counterparts from the Republic of Congo Dennis Sassou Nguesso, Rwanda Paul Kagame, Uganda Yoweri Museveni, Gabon Ali Bongo and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Joseph Kabila.

 

The chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, is also expected to attend the event.

 

Manuel Augusto said that the meeting will focus on debate and political consultation, aimed to the unity.

 

He added that the initiative is based on the principle that the regional issues must, first of all, be resolved by the leaders or governments of the respective countries of the region.

 

The situation in DRC, South Sudan, the Central African Republic and  Leshoto will be in the spotlight, said the top diplomat.

 

On the other hand, Manuel Augusto referred to the diplomatic activity of the Angolan statesman.

 

According to him, the activity was intended to  clarify the world on the new reality of Angola following  the 2017 elections, the approval of the programme of his government, associated with the new dynamics.

 

He stated that the diplomatic actions of the president also focused on the prospects for economic development in the country, in view to attract more partnerships and investors.

 

The Statesman activity also shed light on measures taken toward creation of a better business environment and guarantees of legal security for foreign investment and the opportunities that the Angolan market offers.

 

 

The President João Lourenço recently addressed the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, France, in what the minister Manuel Augusto, described as a new era in relations between Angola and the European representatives of this forum.
